Showing his backing of the “Three Seas Initiative,” US president Joe Biden appeared via video conference at the group’s event this week in Sofia, Bulgaria, giving a video address at the start of the conference. Seven heads of state were in attendance at the forum, held on 8-9 July at the National Palace of Culture. In addition to Bulgaria’s president, Rumen Radev, who is hosting the summit, the presidents of Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia, Germany, Romania, and Greece were also there.
The Three Seas Initiative, which is supported by the US and Germany, is comprised of 12 countries. It aims to encourage regional cooperation on transport, digital and energy connectivity, and achieving sustainable economic growth that facilitates social and economic cohesion in Europe.
